Can you make it function the same way as in Potlatch? i.e align nodes in a straight line and delete any untagged nodes in between, regardless of the distance to the adjacent node(s) ?

Current implementation of staighten ways in JOSM doesn't necessarily remove untagged nodes between head and tail nodes.
