Some roads do indeed need the tag. So it's not a simple find and replace operation. But manual reviewing with street level imagery whether a certain sign exists. Each road has been split up into tens or even hunderds of individual way segments.

The tag to be changed is only assigned to ways and not to nodes.

The current best way I have found is Sparse editing. Selecting the way segments by dragging a rectangle around the segments. The issue here is that this also selects nodes. I have created a find button to filter the selection. That is cumbersome.

Give the user a tool to select the objects desired, there a only 3: node, way, polygon.

I can imagine this with (a) a modifier key like Ctrl/Alt/etc. (b) an application preference.
