Using an AZERTY keyboard layout:

1. Open some layers.
2. Press Shift+A to switch layers. (The small ""activate the selected layer"" popup appears in the bottom right corner.)
3. Press a number (Shift + appropriate key) to switch to that layer. (Nothing happens.)
4. Try omitting the Shift, to see if that works. (You're actually typing one of &é""'(§è!çà now.)

2. Press Alt+number (Alt+Shift + appropriate key) to toggle visibility of a layer.
3. Try omitting the Shift, to see if that works.

The layer is activated or visibility is toggled.

Nothing.

AZERTY is the standard keyboard layout in France and Belgium. To form numbers, you have to use Shift while pressing the same keys as on QWERTY. AZERTY is a pretty bad layout, but to date it remains widely used.
